The Director General of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has described the National Migration Conversation as timely and critical to advancing the protection of Nigerians at home and abroad.
The Conversation, held in Abuja on July 9th, 2026, brought together government agencies, IOM Nigeria, academia, civil society, and the media to discuss safe, regular, and dignified migration and border management.
Speaking at the event, the DG, ably represented by Barrister Nneka of NAPTIP legal department, said:
“This conversation that started today is worthwhile and will outline the way forward”.
She expressed hope that the outcome of conversation will achieve desired objectives as she regretted the lifes of lot of youths that are ruined by mismanagement of borders.
“As this conversation navigates the foundation of safe and profitable migration, it is my prayer that it translates to massive awareness for the endangered youths even as it prevents their future from ruins and exploitation.”
NAPTIP emphasized that migration must be managed with a strong focus on human rights, victim protection, and the prevention of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
The Agency reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure Nigerians are adequately informed about safe migration pathways and the dangers of irregular migration.
“We must continue to enlighten the public, prosecute traffickers, and provide support to victims. Dialogue like this helps us align on strategy”- she added.
