Dr. Magnus Eze, Special Assistant on Communication and New Media in the office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs made the announcement in a statement, released on Monday.
According to the statement, the Minister of State for Foreign Affair, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed Monday morning, that the South Africa Ministry of Transportation also informed that one person had been confirmed dead, while five were missing, stressing that search efforts were ongoing.
“The South Africa Ministry of Transportation informed us of this development.
“The South Africa Maritime Safety Authority has also informed that survivors are presently being conveyed to Port Elizabeth, where officials from the Nigeria High Commission are on their way to receive them,” the minister said.
The statement also pledged to update the public with further details as they unfold.
