Migrationwatch Magazine, arguably the first magazine in Nigeria that is wholly and fully focused on migration, has concluded arraignment to host the maiden edition of National Migration Conversation.
The executive editor of the magazine, Onoja Saint Michael made this known in a statement issued to newsmen inabuja.
According to the statement, the event themed OUR BORDERS, OUR BURDENS AND OUR BLESSINGS will take place on July 9th at Media Merit House, Maitama Abuja by 10.00 am
Top government officials including the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu have been duly invited as Special Guests of Honours.
The CGC of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi is to deliver the event’s main address. The choice of Adeniyi is connected to his impactful and successful management of the borders since assumption of office. In the same vein, the executive governor of Borno is expected to deliver the keynote speech given his experience, his background and uncommon management of IDPs.
Also invited as guests of Honours are some of the governors grappling with insecurity linked to border issues. They include the governors of Kogi. Benue, Plateau, Borno, Kaduna and Kastina states.
The minister of Interior Dr Tunji Ojo and the counterpart in Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu are expected as guests to give remarks. Others include comptroller General of Immigration, KN Nandap, the Chairman/CEO NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Federal Commissioner, NCFRMI, Tijjani and DG NAPTIP.
The International Organisation for Migration, IOM and International Centre For Migration Policy Development, ICMPD, members of the pen profession as well as the general public are equally invited.
National Migration Conversation seeks to bring together relevantly experienced stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to deliberate on the multifaceted challenges related to border and migration management with the aims to generate practical solutions for safer and more beneficial outcomes.
Six University dons from across three universities; university of Abuja, university of Maiduguri, Federal university of Tech, Minna make up planning and organizing committee.
