The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended profound sympathy and solidarity with the Government and the Kingdom of Morocco following the ongoing devastating floods that have affected the northern parts of the country.
The unfortunate floods have resulted in tragic loss of lives, displacement of families and extensive damage to homes, public utilities, transportation networks, farmlands, and other critical infrastructure.
In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa,, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.on Friday 6th February, 2026, Nigeria is deeply saddened by the magnitude of human suffering and material losses occasioned by this natural disaster and stands firmly in unity with Morocco during this exceptionally difficult period.
The statement said “the Government of Nigeria recognizes the emotional toll on affected families and communities, as well as the broader national burden associated with emergency response, rehabilitation, and long-term reconstruction”.
“In this regard, Nigeria commends the swift, coordinated, and resolute actions of the Moroccan authorities, emergency services, and humanitarian actors in search-and-rescue operations, the provision of emergency shelter, medical assistance, and relief supplies, and the protection of vulnerable populations. These efforts underscore Morocco’s strong institutional capacity, preparedness, and commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens”, the statement concluded.
The statement expressed the confidence that through sustained national efforts and international cooperation, the affected regions will recover and rebuild, with strengthened systems to mitigate future climate-related risks and disasters.
It also conveyed Nigeria’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and extended sincere sympathies to all those who have suffered losses, displacements, and hardships as a result of the floods assuring that
“the thoughts and prayers of the Government and people of Nigeria remain with His Majesty the King, the Government, and the people of Morocco, with earnest hopes for the safety and well-being of all affected communities, the swift restoration of normalcy, and the successful rebuilding of lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure in the impacted areas”.
